Social Sustainability Level in Rural Areas: A Case Study of Subdistricts of Charam County, Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad Province of Iran

Abstract

This study aimed at evaluating the social sustainability of rural areas and specifically subdistricts of Charam county, Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad province of Iran. This applied research was conducted in a descriptive-analytic method. The data was collected through a library and field study. The information was analyzed in Delphi method by applying fuzzy and also fuzzy TOPSIS techniques. The sample size was determined 285 rural household heads by using Cochran sampling method. The results showed that the total social sustainability subjective indicators in rural areas of Sarfaryab and Bordyan were located in sustainable cluster and of Alghchyn villages, in upper cluster at the lowest level of social sustainability. A balanced development of rural areas in the couty requires reconsideration of the allocated resources, equal distribution of opportunities and improved quality of services in order to reduce the development gaps among the rural areas.
