The Role of Rural Production Cooperatives in Agricultural Development in Qom Province of Iran

Abstract

Small lands, excessive use of inputs, inappropriate
mechanization, traditional irrigation, and low performance are among the main
challenges in agricultural sector. Agricultural production cooperatives in the
presence of proper management can play an important role in solving these problems.
This study aimed at investigating the role of agricultural production
cooperatives in the agricultural development of Qom province of Iran. The statistical
population included main members of the production cooperatives in the province
(102 people). The information was gathered through questionnaires in survey and
headcount manners. The results of multiple regression showed that the variables
including "attention to environment", "proper distribution of
facilities and resources among the members", "application of modern
agricultural machineries and equipments", and "revision and
improvement of cooperative's policies" were the most effective factors in
developing the agriculture of the province.
