Abstract

Climate change, has had significant effects on water resources in arid and semi-arid areas that intensely affect farmers’ vulnerability and rural household well-being. Therefore, in this research, an assessment of factors that determine the vulnerability level at the farming household in southern Bakhtegan Lake has been conducted. Also, the vulnerability of the agricultural households of the studied region has been measured using the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) and Beta regression model was conducted to assess the factors affecting vulnerability levels to climate change. Based on the Cochran' formula, a sample of 350 rural households were determined and required data and information were collected through questionnaires and face to face interviews in 2022. The results of the Beta regression model showed that the age of household head, family size, education level of the household head, access to climate information, membership in the cooperatives, off-farm income and also receiving a bank loan have a significant effect on the vulnerability of rural household. According to empirical results, it is recommended that rural development policy targets on key points that promote resilience and adaptive capacity of farming household, including education, income generation, access to climate information and membership in the cooperatives.
